August was pretty excellent. A really intense way to end the summer, in so many ways. Here I was, thinking of all the things I’ve gone through this year, all that I’ve processed and done. Adapting and doing what I needed to do. But this month was like a new beginning I didn’t expect, without even a real ending to preempt it. August happened and it was kind of like a bonus. An extra credit. Lessons learned that I wasn’t looking for. Shifts in perspectives that I wasn’t expecting. Boundaries set that I didn’t know needed to be set.
I’ll spend more time on the deep stuff later. For now, let me fill you in on some of the recent fun!
I finally tried a segwey — on the Venice boardwalk. That thing is tricky & deceiving. It’s harder than it looks at first but once you get the hang of it, it’s so fun..and fast! Also, I tried Indian food for the first time. I’ve been enjoying submersing myself in all the cultures and foods LA has to offer. Expanding my palate is always an interesting experience and I’m glad I checked this one off my list.
I “started” running the strand in the morning. I say “started” because I haven’t quite mastered the habit yet. My roommate goes religiously and I’m trying to be positively influenced by her. It’s been tough. I have the time in the mornings, and I love starting my day with that energy boost, but I also just find it hard to wake up! Maybe by the end of September I’ll be able to say that I’ve stuck with this a little better. If nothing else, I’m driven to take advantage of the backdrop. What better motivation can there be for a run than having the ocean and mountains as your scenery?? Routine has been a staple in my life for as long as I can remember and I haven’t had much routine or stability this year. This early morning habit may be just what I need to start my day off a bit more grounded.
Lastly, I saw Taylor Swift and JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE VIP Style!!! I lucked out and scored amazing tickets to her final show in LA. I was pretty stoked to see who she had lined up for her guests. I knew she’d keep the highest caliber stars for her last night. I was hoping all night JT would be there. He is literally my favorite person (that I don’t know – ha!) and has been since, like, 7th grade. When she announced he was there, I lost my mind. It was an incredible show and I’m thankful for every enjoyable moment. I know I won’t have front row seats to such a hot ticket show again anytime soon so I soaked it up.
Looking ahead to September, I know it will be another intense month. But, I’m excited to see where it goes and what comes my way. I’m going to live in the moment and say yes to all the fun it brings!
