Well, February may be a short month but it was definitely a full one!
But I did move across the country.
I said yes to my own quiet corner of the world, my own little retreat. Just 4 blocks from the beach, I have a new home away from home.
I spent a week adjusting and settling in. This was made especially interesting because I lacked a car, which was being shipped from back East. I found some of the local coffee shops, and got a card at the cutest little local library I’ve ever seen. I walked to the beach and pinched myself that this was my life now. That whenever I crave the beach and the meditative peacefulness it brings, I CAN WALK THERE. In five minutes.
I spent a day with my cousin, buying furniture at IKEA and putting it together. It was starting to resemble a room. When my car arrived after a week and a half, so did some boxes with belongings from back home. When I flew out, I brought a couple suitcases with clothes, but that’s about it. It made me realize how little we truly need, and also how refreshing it is to have more than 3 pairs of shoes. Once I unpacked some of my personal mementos — favorite books, picture frames, pieces of my old life — I really started to feel like my room belonged to me. It reflected me and was not just a space I was existing in. There was a comfort about it now.
It will take some getting used to, it’s only been a few weeks. Right now it very much feels like a home away from home. But it finally feels safe and warm.
In my first week, I did another “something new.” I started a vlog, which you can check out here, on my YouTube channel. We’ll see how long it lasts but I thought it was a cool way to stay in touch with folks back home, and my readers. Check it out!
And, lastly, I started a new job. I really love it. I love my employer and the environment I work in. I love my co-workers. I’m diving right into my work, and like what I do. My commute isn’t bad, which is a commodity in the Los Angeles area. It’s hard to get used to no longer being solely self-employed, and I miss my flexibility and control of my schedule. But, I especially like having employer provided PTO, health benefits, and a steady paycheck…It’s worth the benefits!
I’m pretty stoked to see what next month brings. If this is how it’s starting off, I have a feeling it’s going to be quite bold and really epic! seize the day.
